Google art colouring book

Hi everybody it's me Jonathan and today I've started doing the Ako Hiko summer learning journey and my first piece of work is colouring a template of some art pieces. We do the summer learning journey to keep our maths reading and writing levels the same height. I did Christ the redeemer, the statue of liberty and the Chichén Itzá. I've got the real photo and mine, can you tell which is which? Here is the link to the Google Art colouring book. There are 17 pieces of art which you can recreate exactly or differently with ones like Women combing her hair by Goyō Hashiguchi and Self-portrait with Monkey by Frida Kahlo.I really like it because I only have to click a couple times and one bit is already done plus its all in the lines and there's no gaps. I hope you all have a great end of the school year and amazing summer.

Christ the redeemer, which piece of art is mine!

Second Intermediate Vist

Hi bloggers, it's Jonathan here and this week we visited intermediate again. This time I found out what class I'm in. The class I'm in is room 12 and the teacher for the class is called Mrs Power, she loves science and coaches a few of intermediates sports team. I'm going to have a friend which I know who is in the same class named Ari (link to his blog).  I can't wait to go to intermediate but I'm also quite sad because I'm going to miss primary school and some of my friends. If you want more information then here's the school website link, which has all of he information about the school: link. Hope you have a great weekend. Blog ya later!

BFB (Big foot biking)

Yesterday I did Big foot biking with my class, it was really fun and I had brought my own bike to use. We learnt how to do a ABCDQ checklist: A is to check the air pressure on the tires, B is for brakes which you to check to see if they stop the bike, C is for checking the chains for any damage, D is to drop the bike to see if the suspension is working (Only drop it a couple of centimetres off the ground), Q is to check if the quick release is out of the way of the wheel. We also learnt how to do a curb rideout. My favorite thing was THE BOX GAME where you have to stay in a shrinking area and have to not crash into some body or put a foot on the ground or you're out. This biking was amazing and learning more was very fun. Now I'm going to ride it a lot more. Here are some photos:

Skateboarding

Hi everybody it's Jonathan here and I want to tell you about skateboarding. This morning my class got to do skateboarding with two amazing coaches, their names were Ben and Lawrence. We got to learn how to get onto a skateboard, how to do a tic tac, how to carve (turn) and how to crab walk. We found out there are three sections of the board: The deck (middle), the nose (front) and the tail (back). We learnt how to play What's up wolf pack (basically Red light, Green light but with skateboards). Tic tac is when you put weight on the one foot on the tail lifting it up, then turning the foot on the tail and taking away the weight on the tail. Crab walking is basically walking by only using Tic tacing. The sun was shining bright so it wasn't cold outside and learning how to balance on a skateboard helped (most) people not fall over. Here are some photos:

Production (the actual thing)

Hi it's Geewiz/Jonathan here and this time i'm going to talk about the actual production where I played Geewiz the magician's assistant. Oh yeah... I HAD A BLAST at the show, it felt so amazing performing in front of everyone. My favorite scene was scene 3 where Aladdin found the lamp and met the genie and I had a third camel, the naughtiest of them all. My favorite part of making me Geewiz was the makeup. Back at school we also made a de bono thinking hats slideshow on the production, It basically had the ups and downs. Here are some photos and a link to the slide.

P.S If you saw the production then tell me what was your favorite scene.

Film Festival 2020

Last term around the 5th week some of syndicate did Film Festival. Even though I didn't do it I know from friends and classmates, that it was amazing. This year's theme was kindness and 4 films were made: The Lockdown Show (My favorite), The Act of Kindness, The Kindness Comedy and Don't Judge a Book by it's cover. Because of lack of films all of them made it in and the process was hard for the people who did it but it was worth it.

The Act of kindness is a film where a alien named Beepy-Boppy joins a school, makes quick friends, get's bullied, the bullies get in trouble and the friends go to mars. The kindness comedy is about a kid whose teacher wants her to do a quick job and she trips and gets hurt, she gets found and goes to the sick bay. Now I present my favorite film: The Lockdown Show.

Monoprint

Hi everyone, this week I finshed doing a monoprint. A monoprint is a type of printing which uses one piece of paper = one chance, it is hard and time consuming and makes your wrist and hand hurt. A lot of monoprints are animals and they are amazing, so we did animals. I did 2 amazing kiwi prints! First we drew a prototype, then we drew an actual one, then we traced the drawing on to a second piece of paper. Finally we printed it and coloured it. The results were AMAZING and here are some photos:

Rehearsals

Hi everyone Jonathan/Geewiz here and my school's doing a production. I'm excited and I'm Geewiz the magician's assistant. Lockdown has made us delayed using the props but we're getting better. The production is called Aladdin & Jasmine, our spin on Aladdin. This production is going to take place at Waikowhai Intermediate and the tickets are being sold at the office at Waikowhai Primary.

Note: The show will go on even if in lockdown in some way.

Thanks for reading my blog.

Writing a myth

The last 2 weeks my syndicate started writing individual myths about animals. The idea was to turn your idea on how something got something and turn that into a story. The idea could be as obscure as why the penguin can't fly or something else but first we had to plan. For planning we had to list down several different ideas on how the theory could happen and we had to decide on one. Then we wrote a paragraph using the 5 Ws and 1 H to explain the start of the story. That's the top bun and the patty is the middle, and the end is the bottom bun. Here's my myth:

Long, long ago when people were only first coming to Aotearoa, there lived many birds and creatures. There was a fantail and a pukeko. They both were cheeky but fantail had no tail and pukeko hated water. Now at the time some Maori were facing patupaiarehe, and fantail and pukeko were going to make a long journey to pull a huge prank.

As they were about to leave the bush the wise elder fantail said “This isn't good, you are going to spend a week away just to pull a prank.” “Well it might be longer.” said pukeko “DO NOT G-”  but they had already left. Now in those days moa were alive and looked like dinos to fantail. It didn’t help that he came across a herd of them. Also birds like the quad-winged flesh eater lived, let me make a list of some: The bat-bird, The Zombird and the Ironbite e.g. Fantail and pukeko came across a lot more. Now at the edge of the long shoots valley or a lot of long grass they stopped.

They then wandered to the village because at the time a delicious feast should have been in the making and they would screech and scare the villagers and make them mess up the food but nothing was happening. The next couple minutes though in the background they heard lots of noises. They also didn’t know what was happening because they were distracted by a mouse. “Ahhhh! Giant mutant chickens!” said Jeffrey the mouse.

Then they looked up and saw an albatross flying away with seven nets. Then the villagers saw them and a chase scene started as pukeko leaped over logs and ducked under roots, and the 3 day journey became a 3 hour journey. To lose them pukeko ran in a different direction but fantail was still being chased instead and the villagers started throwing things. One container splashed a lot of glue on his behind. Suddenly an ancient fan was thrown and stuck to the glue. The villagers started going back and eventually there were no more chasing fantail.

Now pukeko fell into a swamp by accident by tripping over and knocking himself out and woke up stuck. Days passed and he started liking the water lapping at his feet, he eventually got unstuck but decided to stay. Fantail got back sad that his friend was lost and the new tail didn’t have feathers, the elder fantail cast a spell making feathers grow over the fan but he was still sad. Months later fantail got a letter from pukeko that said: Enjoying the swamp life, come over sometime! Pukeko. Fantail suddenly felt really happy and joyful inside. Nowadays fantail and pukeko visit each other and fantail has a tail, and that's why fantail has a “fan” tail.

Waikowhai Intermediate Visit

This week I visited Waikowhai Intermediate, Waikowhai Intermediate is the intermediate which I'm (probably) going to go to. First the year six's watched a video about the school, then we saw a couple performances from the performing groups. Next we had a tour of the school, my favorite classes were: the hard tech class, the library and the performing arts class. They also have a mountain of beanbags in the library. Here is a photo (sorry there were only two, both the same).

Wonder Project

Have you ever wanted to build a rocket? Have you wanted to become a video game designer? The Wonder project is the first step to doing that. Also we are going to actually fire a tiny rocket using water and air. This happens once a week where a ambassador comes in to teach use about rockets and other stuff. This week we assembled our crew and the and ambassador (Si Hung) told us about himself, he is a engineer. We are going to learn about Newtons Law and stuff like this. Here are some photos:

Martariki Day

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog today I'm going to talk about Martariki. Martariki is a Maori event where 7 stars indicate the Maori new year. We did three activities. The first activity was making Maori kites, we use paper, cord, bamboo, decorative strips and feathers. The kites can't fly but they are cool. The second activity was making Maori bread which only used self raising flower and water. The final one was we had to make a stop motion and it was great. Here are some photos and the stop motion:

Cross Country 2020

Hi and welcome back to my blog, yesterday we did the school Cross Country for 2020. The Cross Country is a school event we do every year, we do activities and a running course in our age groups which makes our feet hurt. The year 6's don't do the activities but instead help and lead the activities. At the end the of the day the year 6's do the running course and then pack up, the year 0 & 1's, 2's and 3's run once around the course. The rest of the year groups run twice, the top 5 people in all of these groups go into the Cross Country zones (that's for another blog). The activity I did was the second one where we did a warm up, played duck duck goose and watched the runners. The run for the year 6's was hard as we had to run on the field, run down the steps to backtrack (I did this barefoot, which is probably why it partly made my feet hurt), Run though the bush (this mostly made my feet hurt), Run around the fence of the pool, run past te waka ako and we had to do it all again. I really liked the run and spending time with my friends but I didn't like that it made my feet hurt. Here are some photos:

Racism inquiry

Kia ora everyone. This week on Friday my class watched a video about a teacher that did an experiment where she said to her class that people with blue eyes were smart and brown eyes were dumb. She made all sorts of rules for the brown eyed people, she said that within 15 minutes they went from kind and nice students to rude, bad discriminators. The next day she said that actually brown eyes were smart and blue eyes were dumb and the same thing happened. The next day she said that there was no superior students and that we should not judge others. After we watched the video we did a personal response to it. Here is the response and link to the video:

Toolkits

Yesterday was GREAT because of the toolkits and I'm going to tell you why. It was the first ever online toolkits because of covid-19, the internet wasn't happy (it caused us a couple problems) but it was amazing. First the teachers did a meet and then we did the first session. I chose the remove background toolkit which showed you how to use a site which could remove the background on a photo of yourself, here is an example. (Link to the site later)

The second toolkit I did was about scratch which is a coding thing, in the toolkit it showed you how to make a simple maze, this how you do it: Make an account and press create and make a new project. Make a sprite and make it really small, then you make a maze. switch to the first sprite and copy this code:

Now you can post it if you have an account (link to my account and scratch later). The third toolkit I did was about a online drawing tool called piskel.  This drawing tool allows you to make drawings and GIFs out of pixels, here are some examples: (link to piskel later)

The toolkits were lots of fun and we put a bit of work on a slide, the toolkits went really well and I hope future Waikowhai students can experience it as well. Here are the links and the slide (sorry the slide was a bit rushed). : link to scratch, link to my scratch account, link to piskel, link to remove backgrounds

Black Lives Matter reading

This week for reading we read about the black lives matter marches and racism. It was very educational and made me think a lot more about racism, I hate racism because it's basically treating one type of people with a different colour skin badly. Our school's number one rule is to respect each other, yourself and our environment. The racism also makes me mad because my school also has a lot of different cultures. My favorite activity of the week was the readworks activity about Malala Yousafzai. She protested about women rights for going to school and survived being shot in the head without any brain damage. She was very brave and strong in her voice. I really liked the reading for this week and I can't wait for more.

Creative Writing

This week we did creative writing, I did two peices of writing but only one is finshed so I can't show the other one to you. The first one is about a boy who is tiny and trying to stop a grasshopper from taking over the world. The second is about a girl whos trying to find the lendary pancake whale. Here is a sneak peek to the secound one:  This was my favorite story from when I was four, by the way my name is Samantha and my cat is called Mr Meow. Now what I’m about to tell you happened long ago. Long ago before I was born, whales were plentiful and survived on pancakes. Pancakes made the whales strong and fast so they were harder to kill. One day a fairy decided to get a pancake to make it the roof of her house, but on the way back to her house a whale mistook the fairy for a flying pancake and ate her. The fairy then made a deal that if the whale released her out the spout she would give the whale the power to summon pancakes out of thin air whenever he wanted and so the whale agreed. The fairy got released and she stuck to her deal and made the wish come true. The whale decided to share the pancakes with the other Whales, but as everyone knows too much of one thing is bad for you. So the whales became fat, weak and slow. This made lots of whales die, but the pancake whale escaped. The legend says he lives in Australia, which is where I live…

 Here is the first one:

P.S In future I hope to update this so you can see the secound one.
